In his greetings in honour of the first World Music Day in 1975, the wonderful violinist and instigator behind the celebration Yehudi Menuhin wrote, 'I would urge every village and every city, every region and every country to arrange musical manifestations of every description. Personally, I would love these to include not only concerts and broadcasts of music from all periods of history and very particularly the contemporary world, but also spontaneous music-making in the streets by musicians of every kind - singers, choral groups, jazz players as well as the exponents of the classical.” Answering his still timely call, we are are organising our own World Music Day concert, in which the students of the Tóth Aladár Music School, who have won competitions both in Hungary and abroad, as well as the school's ensembles, will perform classical and jazz pieces.
