The World Cup of Tennis comes to Budapest
This April, the biggest names in women’s tennis will descend on Budapest for the all-new Fed Cup by BNP Paribas Finals. As the largest annual team competition in women’s sport, the World Cup of Tennis will see the top players from the 12 best nations compete in one city over one week, all with the ultimate goal of being crowned World Champions.
The schedule for the tournament has now been confirmed, with the teams going head-to-head at the László Papp Budapest Sports Arena between 14-19 April.
Eleven-time champions Czech Republic face Switzerland in the opening session on Tuesday 14 April in a tie that could see a potential showdown between two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova and Belinda Bencic, who is ranked fourth in the world.
Following the opening tie, 18-time Fed Cup winners USA will take on Slovakia in the first evening session. Team USA boasted a star-studded line-up for their February qualifier, including Serena Williams, Coco Gauff and Australian Open champion Sofia Kenin, and will be hoping for a strong showing in Budapest.
Day 2 promises more drama and excitement as both 2019 finalists launch their campaigns, with Australia facing Belgium at 10:30 CEST followed by defending champions France’s clash with hosts Hungary from 17:00 CEST.
All 12 teams will play two group-stage ties to determine the winners of the four groups, who will then progress to the semi-finals. Each tie will consist of two singles matches and a doubles match. View the full schedule here to make sure you don’t miss seeing your favourite team in action.
Tickets are now on sale for all sessions at the Fed Cup by BNP Paribas Finals in Budapest, with multi-session passes also available for the group stages, finals weekend and the entire event.
